The Walking Dead Season 4: Michonne Knocking on the Door Scene Was Almost Very Different!

We’ve been pretty vocal about our opinion of The Walking Dead Season 4 midseason premiere — too much Carl, too slow — but one of our favorite parts of the hour came in the installments’ final moments, specifically when there was a knock on the door of Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl Grimes’ (Chandler Riggs) new house. Rick simply looked through the peephole and smiled, telling his son, “It’s for you,” but in our minds that uncomplicated moment was one of the best of the series thus far.

Yahoo TV agreed and asked TWD executive producer Gale Anne Hurd about Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) reunion with the Grimes men. As Gale revealed, that soon-to-be iconic scene almost went down very differently. “What's funny is there was actually a scene where she came in and reunited with them, inside the house,” Gale said. “We debated whether or not to end it there.”

As we now know, the Powers That Be decided to cut the scene after the knock, and we didn’t actually have confirmation that Michonne was the one at the door though the clues were certainly there since she’d pretty much been tracing Carl and Rick’s footsteps the entire time. Gale concludes, “We realized that was a much better ending than actually showing the reunion. I'm glad you're saying that, because we always second-guess ourselves.”

We’re so glad that the producers left the scene as we saw it in Episode 9, but do you wish we’d actually seen Michonne enter the house? Tell us your opinion below!

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
