Game of Thrones Season 4 Primer: Who Are the Returning Characters?
While Game of ThronesSeason 4 features a ton of new characters, it’s also going to feature a number of characters whom we haven’t seen in a while or who’ve been recast (or, in some cases, both). Here’s our rundown of the important returning characters you might not recognize or remember.
Gregor Clegane (Thor Bjornsson)Better known as the Mountain, the Hound’s brother is back after a Season 3 absence. Thor is the third actor to portray the brute.
Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale)The Night’s Watch Master at Arms hasn’t been seen since Season 1, when he was a major thorn in Jon Snow’s side (no pun intended). Expect him to return to his old ways in Season 4.
Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter) The former head of the City Watch in King’s Landing finally makes it to the Wall after being exiled there by Tyrion in Season 2. Don’t be surprised if he starts palling around with Alliser Thorne.
Lysa Arryn (Kate Dickie)Cat Stark’s crazy sister and the head of the Vale, Lysa hasn’t made an appearance since Season 1. She’s back this season to welcome Littlefinger, who last season was sent by Tywin to the Vale to marry Lysa and bring her onto the Lannister’s side in the war.
Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli) Lysa’s crazy son. Likes breast milk and seeing bad men fly.
Dontos Hollard (Tony Way)Absent since Season 2, Dontos was a knight whom Sansa saved after Joffrey tried to drown him in wine for showing up drunk to a tournament. Instead of killing him, Joffrey made him a fool at the behest of Sansa. Let’s hope he still remembers what Sansa did for him.
Rorge (Andy Beckwith)A vicious criminal, Roge was one of the three men locked in a cage on the way to the Wall (Jaqen H’ghar was the most notable of the three) who were freed by Arya. Last seen in Season 2 as part of the Mountain’s crew at Harrenhall.
Polliver (Andy Kellegher) Another member of the Mountain’s gang last seen in Season 2 at Harrenhall, he’s notable for stealing Arya’s sword, Needle.
Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman)The most notable character to be recast, the sellsword with eyes for Daenerys was portrayed last season by Ed Skrein, but the bearded Huisman takes the reins starting in Season 4.
