Last we saw of Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) they made their way to the familiar train tracks and were on their way to Terminus. We were under the impression that the train tracks were a yellow brick road of sorts and once you hit them arrival at Terminus was pretty much imminent — but new Season 4 finale promo art could suggest otherwise.
TVLine got their hands on the aforementioned promo materials, and Rick is certainly looking worse for the ware. A heavily-bearded papa Grimes is front and center in the new photo, and between the growing mass of hair inching up his face and the blood dripping from the side of his head, we’d say he’s seen better days. The photo reads “...who will arrive? #Terminus,” which seems to hint that not everyone will be so lucky. Uh-oh...
Even more disturbing is the fact that he, and Michonne and Carl who are standing behind him, seem ready for battle. Rick’s got a chain of some kind in one hand and a gun in the other, while Michonne has her katana in prime slicing position. Carl looks like he sees something pretty terrifying and is about to make a run for it.
The entire photo is clouded by a layer of smoke, which could have something to do with the smoke Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) and Tyreese (Chad Coleman) saw in Episode 14 (those charred walkers will haunt our dreams) or the smoke created when Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) burned down the moonshine house in Episode 13. So much smoke, so little time!
Some fans have suggested that Rick could die in the finale (we’re at least predicting a run-in with the marauders from “Claimed”) and this photo certainly doesn’t do anything to allay those fears. Do you think this photo is foreshadowing the beginning of the end for Rick? Tell us your thoughts and theories below!
The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
