Now this is how you survive the zombie apocalypse in style! The Walking Dead Season 4 starts October 13 on AMC, and comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman just gave a tour of the updated prison set-up in a new behind-the-scenes video.
No offense to AMC, but this is a more informative sneak peek than the Michonne on a horse clip they showed last weekend. This gives us a better visual for how the grounds have changed in the several-month time jump between Season 3 and Season 4.
For example, Team Prison now has a swanky outdoor living area with chairs, supplies, and food. It’s the kind of weekend BBQ deck people always want on House Hunters. We know the former Ricktator is now Farmer Rick, and not only do we see his little pig pen and crops, Robbert says they are actually growing real crops on the set! We also see the prison's makeshift power plant to create electricity, and some funky new walker-killing tools.
It's like the real-life evolution of humanity from hunters/gatherers to the development agriculture, which helped mankind to build stable civilizations. Creating and keeping a civilization is going to be a big deal this season.
There's also a new cell block, Cell Block A, versus Cell Block C, which we've already seen. It's not that different, but it reflects the growth from the 50-or-so people who joined the prison from Woodbury. Now it's like the prison is its own little neighborhood.
Watch the video to hear Robert's funny background details, which actually add a lot to the experience. Then keep in mind that, in that great extended trailer from the first few episodes, several characters suggest they should leave this place for safety reasons. Can you imagine what must go down for them to consider the cushy prison digs a worse option than heading back on the road?
