The Walking Dead Season 4: Should Kids Be Allowed to Watch?

We’re huge fans of The Walking Dead, but from time to time we cover our eyes while watching the gory and violent AMC hit. As fans of the show know, it’s certainly not for the faint of heart. It’s safe to say the vision of Hershel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) decapitated head will stick with us for quite sometime.

Season 4, Episode 12: “Still”, which aired on March 2, wasn’t particularly disturbing, but during the episode’s premiere we took the opportunity to ask Viggle LIVE! users if kids should be allowed to watch TWD. In an interesting twist, the vote was nearly split, with 58 percent of those who responded reasoning that children shouldn’t be allowed to show because it could give them nightmares for weeks and 42 percent saying that the post-apocalyptic drama was fine for a younger audience because it really isn’t that scary.

Personally we think it depends on the kid, and Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) seems to agree. Last week Norman chatted with HuffPost Live and recounted how his own pre-teen son first viewed TWD and what he thinks of it now. “If you’re going to let your children watch it, you should watch it with them, and it’s fun that way,” he started off. “My son at first didn’t watch the show because he was too scared… but he’s really into it now. I’ve also brought him to set so he knows what’s what.”

Granted, most kids aren’t lucky enough to venture to the TWD set to discern fact from fiction, but we certainly agree with Norman’s overall approach to the situation: If you think your kid can handle it, watch the show with them and make it a family affair!

Do you agree with Norman’s perspective or do you still see things differently? Tell us your thoughts below!

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
