just released a great two minute twenty-four second behind-the-scenes video, with the producers of The Walking Dead discussing the development of the Season 4 premiere. Don't miss the fun moment around the 1:45 mark where special effects guru/producer/director Greg Nicotero gets Norman Reedus (Daryl) in a headlock.
The Season 3 finale aired at the end of March, but Greg said they never really stopped working on the production side, and the writers have been working on scripts since January. "I think Season 4 is going to be our best season yet,” he said.
The premiere was written by new showrunner Scott M. Gimple. Producer Denise Huth said, "We're filming the season premiere right now. The action sequence [Scott] came up with, I think it's going to be really, really spectacular." (This must’ve been taped a couple of weeks ago, since they are done taping Episode 1 at this point.) They decided to have Greg direct the Season 4 premiere, and you can watch the video for a funny story about how they asked him to do it. A dropped phone call is involved.
"It's a tremendous honor," Greg said of the Episode 1 gig. "It's bigger than any script we've ever done before. ... We have an obligation to our audience to keep it fresh. We have some new people coming in that I'm really excited about. There's some great character turns, there's a lot of really good twists that will delight the fans. We all share the same feeling that our rocket is poised on a launchpad and we still have so much more to go."
Hear, hear! Season 4 is set to premiere this fall, sometime in October.
