UPDATE: It looks like it was, in fact, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) in that riot gear! Just as the promo seemed to imply, Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson) is rolling with Glenn... and a new, hyper-aggressive character, Abraham, has just entered the mix, too. Abraham's a major character in the comic books, so we're expecting some major things from this semi-partnership.
Original Story, January 20:
Have you seen the new 30-second promo for the second half of The Walking Dead Season 4?
There are so many quick shots in the middle there, and a couple of them show someone in prison riot gear. There's a shot of an armor-clad person slicing walkers and another of probably the same person running out of the prison with what looks like ... Tara (Alanna Masterson)? As in, The Governor’s (David Morrissey) old buddy Tara who got in way over her head during the prison battle?
It looks like it might be Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) in the riot gear. (Unless it was Tara’s sister Lilly?) If it’s Glenn, could Glenn and Tara be stuck together in the outside world at the start of the second half?
There's been some speculation about Tara's role in the second half, including the idea that maybe she was the one who drove that bus of redshirts away from the prison battle. If you remember, Glenn — still a bit weak from his flu — was on that bus and was waiting for Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) and company. Maggie ended up with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.), who was shot, and they watched the bus drive away.
There's no way Glenn would've wanted that bus to leave without his fiancée. What if it was Tara who jumped onto the bus and drove them out of the action? There's a shot in another promo with people getting off the bus, but what if Tara and Glenn end up back at the prison — maybe to help Maggie and Tara’s sister Lilly — and they end up running out together, like the promo suggests. Or maybe Tara wasn’t on the bus and Glenn just comes across her back at the prison.
The second half of the season starts with Episode 9 on February 9, and that's meant to focus a lot of attention on Rick and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs). But Episode 10 is meant to feature four storylines with "some of the oddest couplings of groups" on the show. Glenn and Tara would certainly qualify as an odd coupling.
This is still speculation, but it does look like Tara will be with us in some form in the second half. Does she know that her girlfriend Alisha was shot by Lizzie? Will Glenn blame her for being part of the Governor war? She was actually the first to say she was in, after The Gov.’s pep talk. Now she’s lost everything.
What do you think is next for Glenn, Tara and company? The Walking Dead Season 4 returns with Episode 9 on Sunday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
