Pretty Little Liars Season 4 Spoilers: 5 Things We Learn From the Sneak Peeks (VIDEOS)
Now that we’re just days away from the summer premiere of Pretty Little Liars, sneak peeks have been released, giving structure to our spoilery speculation! What did we learn from the three scenes released from Season 4, Episode 1: “A is For A-L-I-V-E”? Here are our five biggest revelations:
Mrs. D. is Back in Town!
We don’t remember Jessica Dilaurentis, mother to Alison and Jason, being such a badass. In this scene, Emily brings one of her mother’s famous “Welcome!” baskets to Mrs. Dilaurentis, who is just back in the neighborhood. It is kind of a lovely moment as Mrs. D. is obviously happy to see Ems, but we’re also sensing some underlying anger directed towards the general population of Rosewood: “It’s good to hear someone say her name. People avoid it. They’re trying to be polite, but it’s not nice. It’s weak.” The woman did lose her daughter, but we’ve been trained to judge even justifiable emotions harshly on this show.
Jason is Down South
Another welcome reveal from the Mrs. D./Emily scene is that Jason is “down South, renovating Grandma D’s house.” Huzzah! That mostly quells our fear that Jason was the one who bit the bullet and ended up in Wilden’s trunk at the end of last season. We mean, we’re not going to be completely reassured until he actually shows up — we’ve been watching this show long enough not to be fooled by secondhand stories (amirite, Maya?) — but this will probably stop the panic attacks.
Spencer and Toby Are Super Sleuths
There aren’t even any significant glances or mid-scene makeouts in this scene and it still has us swooning to see Spencer and Toby working together to uncover the mystery of Red Coat. Last season was rocky for this epic duo, so we’re glad to see them doing the everyday, mundane things together — like searching through the charred remains of the lodge their friends were nearly killed in. Finally, everything’s back to normal in Rosewood.
Hanna is Back on Team Mona
Well, more accurately, she’s adopting her mother’s strategy of “keep your friends close and your enemies closer.” For most people, this might mean going shopping with your frenemy or meeting them for coffee. For Hanna, it means helping Mona dispose of the “A” Team RV Lair. In the scene, Emily is understandably wary of Hanna’s plan. We like Hanna’s strategy in general, but we know how she can have a weak spot for former BFF Mona. Don’t forget, Hanna: frenemy is equidistant from both enemy and friend.
The Liars Disposed of Wilden’s Trunk
Well, whatever was in Wilden’s trunk, we guess it’s gone now. We have a feeling it’s only a matter of time before the police find it — not only does that car seem to have nine lives, but we know there will be a funeral in the season premiere. In the sneak peek, Emily and Hanna briefly discuss getting rid of the car. Apparently, they got their fingerprints all over it, while a be-gloved Mona left no trace behind. “She’s like Hannibal Lecter smart,” Hanna describes her. We can’t argue with that.
The Liars are desperate to uncover what new scheme “A” has in store for them in the wake of the lodge fire, and have no choice but to turn to Mona for answers, now that she is also being targeted. Aria struggles with seeing Ezra in the wake of their breakup, and Emily starts to make plans for life after high school. Meanwhile, “A” sets Toby on a new path, what’s in the trunk is revealed, and a shocking discovery reverberates through Rosewood.
Pretty Little Liars Season 4 premieres on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
