Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: What Happens to Brienne of Tarth?

With Game of Thrones Season 3 a distant memory, it’s now time to turn our attention to what may lie ahead in Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for the most honorable woman in Westeros, Brienne of Tarth, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords.

Warning: This article contains MAJOR spoilers from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Click away now if you don't want to know!

Disclaimer: Of course, the show may cut plot elements or even completely alter Brienne's story. These are spoilers based on the books only.

Brienne bumps into Loras. Now that Brienne is in King’s Landing, she finds a familiar face, Loras Tyrell, and he’s not very happy to see her. If you recall, Loras used to be pretty chummy with Renly Baratheon, and Brienne was with Renly in his tent when he was murdered, and then she took off. Because "scary smoke baby" is not on his radar as a viable suspect, Loras thinks Brienne killed his beloved and therefore wants to kill her.

Jaime saves Brienne. Nothing too heroic here, at least compared to the bear pit, but Jaime does step in to prevent Loras from killing Brienne. He then sends Brienne to her room, basically, and convinces Loras to hear her out. Loras speaks with her, and Brienne tells him that she didn’t kill Renly; a shadow baby did. Miraculously, Loras believes her, because she’s just so honest.

Jaime gives Brienne a present. After Ned Stark was killed, Tywin Lannister had Ned’s sweet valyrian steel sword melted down to make a fancy Lannister sword for Jaime. Now that Jaime doesn’t have a sword hand, he’s not really into swords so much, so he gives it to Brienne. Aww!

Brienne starts a quest. After Brienne receives her awesome new weapon, Jaime tells her to go find Sansa Stark (who skips town after Joffrey's wedding). After all, she made an oath to Cat Stark to make sure her daughters were safe, and Brienne isn’t one for breaking oaths. In fact, Jaime names the sword he gives to Brienne “Oathkeeper,” which is an adorable pet name.

That’s where A Storm of Swords leaves Brienne, but she is heavily featured in the next book in the series, A Feast for Crows, where a number of seemingly inconsequential new characters come and go during her journey to find Sansa. We’re not so sure if any of these scenes will be included in Season 4. Personally, we’d prefer the show to invent more scenes featuring Jaime and Brienne together in King's Landing because, frankly, we can’t get enough of those crazy kids! We also wouldn’t mind Cersei being thrown in there to make things super awkward.
