The Walking Dead Season 4 Spoilers: Will Hershel, Michonne or Carol Be “Tyreesed”?

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Hershel was beheaded by The Governor in The Walking Dead Season 4 mid-season finale, meaning he was the unlucky one who got "Tyreesed". Though The Governor had claimed he'd changed, and Rick made a compelling argument about how The Gov's group and Team Prison could coexist, "Brian" didn't believe it, and decapitated Hershel in front of his friends and family. RIP, wise one.

Original story:

Will someone in Team Prison be “Tyreesed” on The Walking Dead Season 4?

What does it mean to be Tyreesed? It’s not pleasant.

In the comics, Tyreese (played on screen by Chad Coleman) was captured by The Governor’s (David Morrissey) Woodbury group outside the prison and The Gov. tried to use him to gain access to the prison. Let me in or he dies, basically. (The Gov. never massacred his Woodbury warriors or burned the town in the comics; not that he was a nicer guy, he just did different bad things.)

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) made the tough call to let Tyreese die so the others could live, which is what Tyreese wanted too. The angry Gov. had Michonne’s (Danai Gurira) katana at that point, and he used it to behead Tyreese. Hence, Tyreese was “Tyreesed”.

On Season 4, Episode 5 of the AMC show, Michonne and Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) were last seen driving outside the prison, and we know Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) is out there too. What if The Gov. captures Michonne and Hershel and uses her katana to “Tyreese” one of them in an attempt to take over the prison? Hershel would definitely argue for Team Prison to not save him for access, and Michonne would probably fight to the death to kill The Gov. herself.

Or what if The Gov. tries to use Carol as leverage, and Rick refuses to save her? David Morrissey told Vulture he was surprised that Rick took the tough stand to banish Carol. “You also feel he’s setting off a train of events that might come back to haunt him. It's very interesting what will happen for her out in the wilderness.”

We’ve already speculated about Carol possibly joining forces with The Gov. in an uneasy alliance. That would be … odd … but Carol’s whole storyline this season has been odd. Besides, it’s better than Carol getting hurt by The Gov., Martinez, or anyone else out there.

This is all speculation, but someone being “Tyreesed” would be a huge gasp-and-clutch-the-pearls moment for either the Episode 8 mid-season finale or the Episode 9 return.

It does feel like we’re gearing up to a big confrontation on the December 1 mid-season finale. There will probably be another cliffhanger to leave us hanging until Episode 9 starts the second half of the season in February 2014. Andrew Lincoln said Episode 8 would be a big, exciting, thrilling episode with a “painful” scene for him. Painful suggests someone we love dying. He also said Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) does something cool in Episode 9. Does Carl save the day? Does he shoot at exactly the right time instead of too fast or too slow?

What do you think? Will anyone get the Tyreese treatment this season, or would that be too gruesome for the show, and not in keeping with the newly not-so-awful Governor? Share your theories below!

The Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m.
