Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: What Happens With the Brotherhood Without Banners?

Game of Thrones Season 3 is long over, and it's time to start thinking about Season 4. Since GoT is based on the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (ASOIAF), we can make some good guesses about how the story will play out next season, at least in broad strokes. Here are our predictions about what's coming up for the Brotherhood Without Banners, based on the latter half of A Storm of Swords.

Warning: This article contains MAJOR spoilers from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Click away now if you don't want to know!

Disclaimer: Of course, the show may cut plot elements or even completely alter the Brotherhood's story. These are spoilers based on the books only.

Ser Gendry. In the books, Gendry is never sold from the Brotherhood. He stays with them and is knighted by Beric Dondarrion. Since the show has gone in a different direction with Gendry’s story, we’re not sure if he’ll be so inclined to go crawling back to the Brotherhood at this point.

No more resurrections for Beric. As we know, Beric Dondarrion has died six times. And all six times that he’s died, he’s come back from the dead. Next season, though, we expect him to give up his life for good. Why’s that? He and the Brotherhood are going to come upon Cat Stark’s body, which has washed ashore after being dumped in a river by the Freys following the Red Wedding. (Well, in the books Arya's direworld Nymeria drags her ashore. Who knows if the show will keep that detail.) Beric feels so bad about this, he somehow transfers the last of his energy into Cat’s body — resurrecting her.

A ruthless new leader. With Beric dead for good, the Brotherhood turn to a new leader: Undead Cat Stark, who now goes by the name Lady Stoneheart. After this, the Brotherhood’s main focus shifts from defending the innocent to exacting revenge on anyone involved with the Red Wedding. They get into business quickly, stringing up every Frey they come across, with Lady Stoneheart creepily giving the orders of execution.
