Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: Does Jaime Die?

As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are amongst fans. So, should we be worried about the fate of the Kingslayer, Jaime Lannister, in Season 4? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

When Game of Thrones first began, Jaime Lannister was set up as one of the show’s main antagonists. In the very first episode we found out that he’s having an affair with his own sister (Cersei Lannister) and he cripples a kid (Bran Stark) who finds out about said affair! Not exactly the type of guy we typically root for. However, over the course of the series, Jaime has grown into a hero, and an extremely funny and charming one at that. So now that almost everyone loves him as a character, wouldn’t it be just like GoT to kill him off?

We saw Jaime nearly give up on life last season after losing his sword hand. He thought he had lost his identity, and it took a pep talk from Brienne to give him a reason to live again. Now he’s back in King’s Landing, and presumably will be exiting Brienne’s positive sphere of influence and entering back into Cersei’s toxic one. Does this mean he’ll lose his newfound cheery outlook on life?

Nope. He may not have a hand anymore, but Jaime’s going to be around for awhile, unless the show suddenly veers away from the book in an unprecedented way. We can pretty safely say that Jaime won’t even lose anymore body parts next season, let alone his life. He will gain some respect, though. As the new acting head of the Kingsguard, he’s going to whip that sorry crew into shape, while at the same time rebelling against both Cersei and Tywin Lannister. Oh yeah, and he’s going to rescue everyone’s favorite Lannister, Tyrion, too.

If any of you were still on the fence about whether or not you can root for this guy, next season should be the one where even the most pessimistic fans hop aboard the Kingslayer train. So after Season 4 is over and everyone has totally embraced him, we’ll all launch into panic mode together in pondering his fate in Season 5!

Are you happy that Jaime lives to see Season 5? Sound off in the comments!
