Christian Serratos, probably best known for playing Bella Swan’s friend Angelia in the Twilight movies, is joining the cast of The Walking Dead Season 4. According to Deadline, she will play “the tough and beautiful Rosita Espinosa, a character introduced in Issue 53 of the comic book.”
Christian, 22, will be a recurring actress in Season 4 with an option to become a series regular in Season 5. The AMC show — which debuts Season 4 on October 13 — hasn’t always (or even often) been faithful to the original comics, but this hints to a certain direction for the Season 4 plot.
In the comics, Rosita is part of a group of three — with Sgt. Abraham Ford and Dr. Eugene Porter — who are on their way to Washington, D.C. when they meet up with Rick’s survivor group. Eugene says he's a scientist and knows the origin of the zombie epidemic, and Rick's crew decides to go along with them to D.C. for more answers.
The trio end up sticking around for a while in the comics, and Abraham is particularly key. If Rosita is coming that hints that maybe Abraham and Eugene also arriving, along with some of the plot points they initiate.
In fact, we may have already seen their casting notices under different names. Back in July, three new characters were listed for Season 4 casting at the same time: John Tyler, described by SpoilerTV as “early 30's, vulgar with rough edges but wise”; Wayne Kesey, called “early 30's. Very smart and an experienced liar”; and Jordana Barraza,” late 20's tough, hispanic, and beautiful. Shamed about her past.”
That sounds like it could be Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita under spoiler-avoiding pseudonyms. If it’s true, then we should be hearing some casting intel on the other two at some point, no?
