As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are amongst fans. So, should we be worried about the fate of perhaps the show’s most frustrating character, Sansa Stark, in Season 4? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

Season 3 was an important one for Sansa after she went from being a Stark to a Lannister (gross!), so will Season 4 bring even bigger surprises for her? Let’s face it, not everyone is super-psyched about her marriage to Tyrion and someone could easily figure out that the best way to end the wedding would be to get rid of Sansa. So is she in harm’s way?
In Season 4, Sansa is going to be a prime suspect in the crime of the century: the regicide of King Joffrey at his own wedding. Once Joff is poisoned, Sansa is able to escape in the commotion, and her husband Tyrion is arrested for the crime while search parties go out looking for Sansa, whom the prosecutors believe to be Tyrion’s coconspirator. Interestingly enough, Sansa does play a role in Joffrey’s murder, since the poison used to kill him was smuggled into the wedding in her hair net, though she herself had no idea. Will the evidence against her be so strong that she ends up facing Ilyn Payne just like her dear old dad did?
Sansa does die next season... in a way. Now before everyone starts crying (tears of joy for many fans), she’s not going to die physically, just in name only. When Sansa escapes Joffrey’s wedding, she is surprised to find Littlefinger waiting to whisk her away (though should she be, really?) and he also tells her that he was the mastermind behind Joffrey’s murder, working with the Tyrells. He takes Sansa with him to the Vale where he is to marry Lysa Arryn, Sansa’s aunt, and since Sansa is public enemy number one, he basically enters her into the witness protection program. She dies her hair dark and becomes Alayne Stone, bastard daughter of Littlefinger.
Don’t worry everyone, Alayne’s way cooler than Sansa was. Sansa is dead, long live Alayne!
