Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: Does Theon Die?

As any fan of Game of Thrones knows, no character is safe. Main characters can die at a moment’s notice, no matter how popular they are amongst fans. So, should we be worried about the fate of Reek, err, Theon Greyjoy, in Season 4? The A Song of Ice and Fire book series provides the likely answer.

While no one on Game of Thrones has led a particularly easy life, one could argue that no character had a worse time last season than Theon. The Greyjoy heir spent the entirety of Season 3 being tortured, seemingly without reason, by Ramsay Bolton. Theon was flayed, starved, beaten, and lost several appendages. So when next season rolls around, is Ramsay just going to kill him?

At the end of Season 3, we saw Ramsay christen Theon with a new name: Reek. Knowing this, it seems like he does have something planned for Theon, though we’re not entirely sure what that is. While the books fill us in on what happens to Theon, the show appears to be going in a different direction. Case in point: Remember the scene in the Season 3 finale when Theon’s sister, Yara, sets off on a mission to rescue Theon? Yeah, that doesn’t happen in the books. Not even a little. So what happens next to Theon is anyone’s guess.

Having said that, we’re still pretty sure Theon’s not going to die anytime soon. He is still alive in the books even after the most recent fifth book in the series, and even though the show appears to be changing his story, we seriously doubt they’ll change it so much that they end up killing him. After all, having us sit through all of those torture scenes in Season 3 (which happened off-page in the books) only to kill him off in Season 4 would be very cruel, even for Game of Thrones!

Are you happy that Theon lives to see Season 5? Sound off in the comments!
