Game of Thrones Season 4 Spoilers: Who Will Die?

In case Ned's beheading didn't convince you, the Red Wedding has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that anyone can die at any time on Game of Thrones. So, do you have to fear for your favorites in Season 4?

While we don't know any definitive spoilers about who will bite the dust in Season 4, which premieres on April 6, 2014, we have read the A Song of Ice and Fire books, so we have a good sense of who will probably kick it next season, assuming the show continues to stick fairly closely to the books.

So, if you're a spoiler lovin' show fan who really wants to know who's head is probably on the chopping block this spring — or if you're a book reader who needs a refresher — read on for our take on who will probably breathe their last this season, and when.

Joffrey. Yes, the boy king finally bites it, poisoned at his own wedding. We're pretty sure this will happen in Episode 2, "The Lion and the Rose."

Tywin Lannister. Tywin also meets his end, at the hands of his infuriated youngest son. This happens near the end of the book, so we're thinking either Episode 9 or Episode 10.

Shae. In the books, Tyrion finds Shae in Tywin's bed, and kills her. We have a hard time imagining the TV version of Shae getting in bed with her love's father, so we're not sure if this plot will play out in the same way. Still, we have a bad feeling that things won't end well for her.

Ygritte. Ygritte is killed during a Wildling attack on the Wall. While her death isn't as plot essential as some of the others, we expect the writers will keep it in for maximum angst.

Lysa Arryn. Expect to say goodbye to Cat's crazy sister when Littlefinger pushes her out the Moon Door at the Eyrie. While it's possible this plot point will be held over into Season 5, we're expecting it near the end of the season.

Balon Greyjoy. Balon Greyjoy dies offscreen in A Storm of Swords, leaving a power vacuum. This will probably happen in the show as well. Hey, we might even see it!

Oberyn Martell. We haven't even met Oberyn Martell yet, so it looks like he'll be a one season wonder — this Dornish prince's death is a seemingly unavoidable part of Tyrion's plot next season. (Get more info on that here.)

The Hound? Arya leaves The Hound for dead near the end of A Storm of Swords. He has not explicitly been seen again in the books, though many suspect he is still alive, perhaps in disguise as a gravedigger.

Note: This article is based on the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, and specifically the second half of A Storm of Swords. HBO’s Game of Thrones may change or move any of these plot points.
