The Ricktator is dead. Long live Farmer Rick! When The Walking Dead Season 4 starts Sunday, October 13 on AMC, a lot will have changed.
The cast and producers previewed Season 4 in a new behind-the-scenes video, and Andrew Lincoln (Rick) mentioned some updates to the prison since Season 3. "We've had another winter and we've consolidated the prison — and I'm a farmer now," he said. Chandler Riggs (Carl) said they've tried to make it more like a home than a prison. Executive producer/comic book writer Robert Kirkman said, "We're making everything look different and new and unique for this season. I think there's going to be some really cool new elements thrown in that will shock you."
On the shocking note, Lauren Cohan (Maggie) teased the new danger of Season 4. "It's not even the walkers and it's not even other people this time; there's a whole new threat." Kirkman said the new threat could be more deadly than the other two combined. Now we’re paying attention!
Could he be talking about a new disease? Disease or really bad weather — that's what we're thinking, if it doesn't include a human threat (like The Governor, who is still out there). Actually, maybe someone poisoned the water? In the Season 4 extended trailer, Hershel is heard saying, "You step outside, you risk your life. Take a drink of water, you risk your life." Maybe he wasn't referencing a specific water threat, but it would be a serious obstacle for the prison.
Producer Gale Anne Hurd reassured viewers that the new season will include “more zombies than ever before” (including a zombie baby). Andy Lincoln said, "The scripts this season are beyond great. They're deeper, darker. I don't know how these guys do it in the writer's room but it keeps getting bigger and bigger and bigger." Chad Coleman (Tyreese) added, "I was reading the first script and I'm just going 'Wow, wow, wow.'"
With all this build-up, we’d better be on the floor by the time the premiere is over!
