The Walking Dead Season 4: Gale Anne Hurd Says Upcoming Episodes Will “Knock Your Socks Off”

Though the Season 4 midseason premiere of The Walking Dead was a bit slow for our taste and frustrating in the sense that it only followed three characters — Michonne (Danai Gurira), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), and Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) — we were thankful that iit gave us the in-depth look at Michonne’s past that we’ve been waiting for since we met her at the start of Season 3.

One of the show’s executive producers, Gale Anne Hurd, praised Episode 9: “After” in a chat with Zap2it, specifically citing the value of the look back into Michonne’s past: “I think it's important to get a real sense of what she went through, but to do it in a stylistic way that's in keeping with the show, and perhaps introducing a few new twists on it.” Even though comic book creator and fellow executive producer Robert Kirkman has since said viewers shouldn’t trust Michonne’s dream sequence “completely,” we’re still happy we got something.

And for those that fear the season’s remaining seven installments will focus on one group of characters at a time, Gale has some good news for you. “We do mix it up. There's not a formula that we're following necessarily for the back eight, but there will be times when we focus like we did in that episode," she said of Episode 9. Per Gale’s point, we already know that next Sunday’s Episode 10 will focus on at least four different groups of survivors.

"Since we're not in the Prison any longer and everyone's on the run, there's going to be a significant focus on survival, but I also think we'll have an opportunity to know a lot of these characters a lot better,” she continues.

We loved learning about Michonne’s past and all, but Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) rumored standalone episode has really piqued our interest, and Gale promises big things for the final seven episodes of the season. “There are going to a few upcoming episodes that will knock your socks off,” she concludes.

Do you think Daryl’s episode will be one such sock-removing hour? Tell us your thoughts and feelings below!

The Walking Dead Season 4 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
