Well, the good news is that we will discover the contents of the trunk presumably within the first few minutes of the Season 4 premiere. We know that the ep picks up moments after the Season 3 finale ends (i.e. with the Liars staring, horrified, into Wilden’s trunk). Now, we just have to make it to June 11.
“More disturbing” than creepy dolls.
Marlene King tweeted that whatever is in the trunk is “more disturbing” than those creepy dolls from Season 2. Now, those dolls were pretty darn creepy, so this certainly ups the ick factor of whatever has been stewing in that swampy cruiser.
Troian calls it: “Pretty awful.”
Though there was nothing actually in the trunk during the Season 3 finale filming, Marlene told Troian to imagine something “pretty close to your worst nightmare.” When Troian saw what was in the trunk when they picked up filming for Season 4, she confirmed it was “pretty awful.”
“She set us up.”
In the Season 4 promo, we hear a Liar make the bone-chilling statement, “She set us up.” (Again.) This could be in relation to another aspect of the plot, but we’d bet our pretty little...pennies that it has to do with the contents of the trunk. This spoiler, more than any of the other ones, makes us think the contents of the trunk could be a “what” and not a “who.”
It’s keeping Mona around.
We can’t wait to see the Mona/Liars dynamic in Season 4. Basically, Mona is Team Liars now, which her teammates are less than excited about. The reason they’re keeping her around? It has to do with what they find in the trunk. Oliver Goldstick shared, “Because of what happens in the trunk, they might need to have her around.”
The car has been vamoosed.
Though this is not a trunk-specific spoiler, it does deal with the car in general. In one of the sneak peeks for the Season 4 premiere, we learn from a convo between Emily and Hanna that the Liars have somehow disposed of the vehicle. They don’t go into details (other than to remark that they got their fingerprints all over the thing), but they don’t seem too, too shaken up about the incident either.
We’re actually pretty impressed with how well the PLL Powers That Be have kept the lid on this secret (and hope that means it will be particularly juicy). We’ve speculated before about the contents of the trunk, but we won’t know for sure until the Season 4 premiere. Until then, guess away!
What do you think is in the trunk? Do you have a theory that hasn’t yet been floated? Either way, let us know in the comments below!
Catch the next episode of Pretty Little Liars on Tuesday, June 11 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
