Pretty Little Liars Season 4B Winter Premiere Review — Shutting Radley Down?!

Pretty Little Liars Season 4's summer season left us with one of the biggest twists in the show's history — Ezra might be "A". The Halloween episode followed that up by revealing once and for all that Alison really is alive. That's a lot of O.M.G. for the winter premiere (Season 4, Episode 14: “Who’s in the Box”) to follow up on.

Overall, we liked this episode, but it didn't blow us away. Maybe we just wanted more answers than we're likely to get this early in the half-season. Really, we barely feel like we've learned anything, other than that Ezra is good at being creepy when he wants to be. We thought the stuff with Sarah might lead to an answer about who's in Ali's grave, but it looks like that was a red herring.

That said, we really loved the emotional side of this episode. Emily coming to terms with the fact that Ali was kind of terrible to her was especially good, and we really can't wait to see how that plays out down the line, when she interacts with Ali again. The Mona vs. Ezra scene was of course excellent (because everything involving Mona is), and the Hanna and Caleb stuff... Well, let's just say we're still crying.

We also really liked the fact that Toby got some closure about his mom (though was the cover up really just about saving a corporation some money? We find that kind of hard to swallow...), and we love that Spencer's dad wants to get Radley shut down. Why do we have a feeling that when he says he's doing it for Spencer he means more than that he just doesn't like the place because she didn't get high quality care?

Overall, we give the episode four stars.
