Game of Thrones Season 5: Aidan Gillen on Passing the Books

Game of Thrones is based on the novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, by George R. R. Martin. While the show still has roughly two published books it can draw from for Season 5, some of the storylines have all but caught up to where they’re left off on the page. This is the case with Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) in the Vale. Since they have very little book material left to wade through, Season 5 remains a mystery for them.

Aidan Gillen, who portrays Littlefinger and who has read the books, recently spoke to about the new kind of challenge Season 5 will bring. “It’s an adventure everyone is on — the audience, the cast. Not knowing where it’s going, that’s good,” he said. “People playing end games could work … but if you don’t know what the end game is, maybe you won’t play the obvious thing.”

Does this mean we’ll see a different Littlefinger in Season 5, since Aidan doesn’t know what his arc will be building toward in the new season?

One thing that should be very interesting for everyone is the relationship between his character and Sansa moving forward. Sansa almost seems to have moved from student to master at the end of Season 4, and it would be great to see her begin to manipulate Littlefinger, who has always been the ultimate manipulator.
