The Walking Dead Season 5: Andrew J. West Talks Terminus “Church” (VIDEO)

We haven’t heard much — or anything really — from The Walking Dead newbie Andrew J. West who plays Terminus’ Gareth on the walker drama. But in this behind the scenes video from AMC, the actor recalls his first day on set and clues us in to the creepy candle room at Terminus, which he refers to as a church.

Speaking of his first day on TWD’s Georgia set, Andrew says, “The cool thing about this is I’ve never done a job before where you show up to work and you get as dirty as possible, immediately. The attention to detail is staggering. It doesn’t take much to feel like you’ve been living in an apocalypse for the past couple of years.”

As avid watchers of the show, we totally know what Andrew means when he mentions the attention to detail. How many times have we paused the show just to make sure we didn’t miss something important in the blink of an eye?!

Terminus is certainly a locale loaded with hints, although we’re not exactly sure what everything is building do just yet. Production designer Grace Walker notes that Terminus “starts off as a very welcoming place, almost like an oasis” but that quickly changes. In fact, Andrew says that the first TWD scene he ever shot was the running/battle sequence that took place right after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) saw tour guide Alex with Hershel Greene’s (Scott Wilson) watch. “It was amazing just to see such an action-packed shot right of the bat, first thing in the morning,” he said.

Next, Andrew takes cameras into that creepy candle room, which he calls a “church.” Andrew also notes that this room is “kind of a memorial to the departed Terminants.” Oooh, did he just unknowingly give us a clue for Season 5? At first we thought that room was a memorial to all the people the Terminus folks may have eaten (if they are, in fact, cannibals) but Andrew seemingly just confirmed that the candle-filled space is a memorial to their own people who have passed.

Producer Denise Huth concludes, “I’m really excited by the end of the episode. We haven’t done a cliffhanger in a while and this is our biggest one by far. To leave, I think the audience is just going to be like, ‘Ugh I can’t believe we have to wait until next year!’”

Yeah, that’s pretty much exactly how we feel! Are you counting down the days until Season 5 begins? Check out the complete video and tell us how you feel below!
