The Walking Dead Season 5 Spoilers: What’s Up With Bob? Should We Worry Or Not?

The Walking Dead’s Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.) is just incapable of living his zombie apocalypse life in peace.

We’re either guessing he’s a spy for The Governor (blame his name); suspicious of his sole survivor status (this is still a concern); judging his choice to take alcohol from the school instead of medicine (is he still craving the sauce?); pushing him into a romance with Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) mostly so we can continue to call them Sashkabob, and even at one point wondering if he might be immune to walker bites, carrying around a cure vaccine in that black box of his (awesome fan theory, true or not).

Bob is probably not quite as mysterious as fans have speculated, but there is a lot to his story that we don’t know, and we’re ready for more breadcrumbs to be dropped in Season 5. He got a decent showcase in the Comic-Con trailer, trying to convince Gareth (Andrew J. West) that they have a guy with a cure, they just have to take a chance and get him to Washington.

But what if Bob doesn’t get a chance to be the source of more wild theories? What if he makes an early exit in S5?

Bob death speculation is now going around like its own little virus, based partly on stuff in the Comic-Con trailer and partly on the idea that Lawrence/Bob has not been mentioned in many filming spoilers, whereas most of the other cast members in his group, like Sonequa/Sasha, have been accounted for. There was even chatter at one point that Bob might get the Dale treatment. Back in mid-July, when Steven Yeun was addressing the Glenn death rumor, we shared a fear about the real early Season 5 death, writing, "Bless his optimistic heart, but we’re starting to worry about Bob. You?"

We were not alone with that thought, and the speculation keeps heating up, but there’s also new reason to question the Bob rumor. No death theory is safe!

Just yesterday, The Spoiling Dead Fans posted about some actors seen on set, filming what should be the Episode 8 mid-season finale. They said "Andrew/Rick, Norman/Daryl and Chad/Tyreese are all on location. Sonequa/Sasha and Lawrence/Bob may have been spotted also." Sasha was seen on a roof with Daryl, but there was question about the validity of the Bob sighting. Was it really him? Some fans were glad to see even some hope for Bob, with one sharing an "If Bob Dies...We Riot!!" picture, adding, "I think theres more to Bobs story to be told...especially with him being a medic. And Kirkman loves people from The Wire. Hopefully Bob is around for awhile." Yeah. Bob is a voice of hope and optimism, kind of like the new Hershel.

Another fan also shared a photo she saw on Facebook of the cast walking down the street, saying it looked like Lawrence/Bob walking next to Chad/Tyreese. Here's the pic. It was said to be taken the same day, and if it is Bob (which is not clear at all), that suggests the rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated.

UPDATE: It's possible that photo that they thought showed Bob actually shows the new character played by Tyler Williams. If so, that's another potential nail in poor Bob's coffin.

But who knows. BobWatch is ongoing. We’re also starting to worry about other people we haven't heard anything about in a while. Like Tara. And even Michonne. We're going to assume that Michonne is with Carl, wherever he is, and Chandler Riggs mentioned filming just last week. A lot of cast members are hidden and just because we don't hear about them filming, it doesn't mean they died.

(UPDATE: No worries — it looks like several characters are back for the mid-season finale. TSDF later spotted Alanna/Tara, Lauren/Maggie, Danai/Michonne, and Melissa/Carol on set, as well as the others previously mentioned at the hospital. So we'll temporarily stop worrying about Tara and Michonne.)

No one has confirmed, or would ever confirm, that any main characters are dying in the first half at all. They like to keep us on our toes. They also like to tell us No One Is Safe, and even if that might not be true, a relative newbie like Bob isn’t immune from the Grim Reaper.

What do you think? Still guessing Bob will be one of the Season 5 deaths? If not, who?

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres Sunday, October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
