The Vampire Diaries Season 5: Should Caroline and Tyler Break Up?
The Season 5 premiere of The Vampire Diariesbrought about a real low point in the relationship between Caroline (Candice Accola) and Tyler (Michael Trevino). Tyler left a voicemail for Caroline, letting her know that he won’t be joining her at Whitmore College this semester. Then, Caroline cried herself to sleep. It was sad, and made us question the future of Forwood. Should Caroline and Tyler break up? We speculate below:
Let’s face it: high school relationships rarely make a successful jump to college — supernatural or otherwise. And, at least for now, Caroline and Tyler aren’t even together at college. Long-distance relationships are hard, and it seems like both Caroline and Tyler will be doing a lot of growing in the next few years. We don’t think Tyler should have to give up what he is passionate about — which is apparently helping Appalachian werewolf packs in Tennessee — and we don’t think Caroline should sacrifice her college experience to be with him. It might be better for these two to call it quits, at least for now, rather than to continue stretching themselves and hurting one another.
There’s also all of those cute college boys for Caroline to consider. Just last week, Caroline blew off Jesse (Kendrick Sampson), a totally adorable guy interested in talking to her, because she is still with Tyler. Perhaps, if Caroline really wants to give Whitmore the old college try, she should try doing it single?
Caroline and Tyler have fought for so long and with such intensity to be together. Most recently, they have had to deal with Tyler’s sire bond to Klaus and then Klaus’ vow to kill Tyler if he returned to Mystic Falls. Now, their relationship is relatively uncomplicated. They can be together without fear of death. They can be a relatively “normal” couple. Isn’t that what they’ve been fighting for all this time? The chance to be together. They can’t quit now that they’ve finally found it!
We also aren’t ready to give up on Tyler completely until we find out more about what exactly he is up to. Details have been suspiciously scarce so far. What if, whatever he’s up to, is for Caroline? What if he’s not even in Tennessee, but under duress somewhere? Hey, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is locked in a safe at the bottom of a quarry. Anything’s possible, and we’re not sure if we can give up on Forwood’s future without giving Tyler a chance to explain himself. He just better do it soon. We don’t like watching Caroline cry herself to sleep. Not one bit.
