Game of Thrones Season 5: New Characters We May See — Report

Game of Thrones Season 4 still has a few episodes left to air, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get the rumor mill churning for Season 5!

Winter is Coming is reporting, from an unofficial source, potential casting leaks for Season 5. Please note, this casting news is not confirmed by HBO, and should be treated as rumor, but it does offer a tantalizing look at some possibilities for Season 5.

Warning! This article contains spoilers from the A Song of Ice and Fire book series, click away now if you don’t want to know!

Prince Doran Martell. The older brother of Oberyn and Lord of Sunspear, Doran is frail due to his gout, but he is very clever. Supposedly a major new player for Season 5.

Prince Trystane Martell. Doran’s youngest child, Trystane is betrothed to Myrcella Baratheon (Cersei’s daughter). The report suggests that he has been aged up to 18 for the show.

Areo Hotah. Areo is Dorne’s Captain of the Guard and is an absolute beast. In the books, he doesn’t offer much other than protection of Doran and his plans.

Three Sand Snakes. Oberyn has eight bastard daughters, called the Sand Snakes, and the report suggests at least three will appear next season. Obara Sand supposedly has a fight scene with a current character on the show, which does not happen in the books, while Nymeria and Tyene are also reportedly being cast.

High Sparrow. The Sparrows are a militant religious group that exhibits a great amount of influence in the books, with the High Sparrow eventually being named the new High Septon and setting his sights against Cersei.

Septa Unella. Unella is the Faith of the Seven’s main interrogator during the upcoming trials for Margaery Tyrell and Cersei (GoT basically turns into Law & Order next season).

Maggy the Frog. Maggy is a fortune teller who influences Cersei in her youth. If she appears, it will likely be in a flashback, which would be interesting since the show has never used this storytelling device before.

Lollys Stokeworth. Bronn’s “dimwitted” bride who was mentioned in Season 4, Episode 7. At least if she appears it means Bronn will be around in Season 5. Yay!

Yezzan. A Meereenese slave owner, Yezzan purchases Tyrion Lannister and Jorah Mormont as slaves.

The Waif. A bizarre older woman who looks like a child, the Waif trains Arya in the House of Black and White.

Again, this list is by no means official, but it does give an idea of where Season 5 could be headed. Interestingly enough, these are all mainly background characters in the books, with the main additions to the story conspicuously absent from the list. We’ll have to keep our eyes out for casting calls for Arianne and Quentyn Martell, Euron and Victarion Greyjoy, Aegon Targaryen, and Jon Connington in the coming weeks.
