When Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), Dr. Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt), and Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos) were introduced in Season 4 of The Walking Dead we knew there was plenty of “cure” talk in our future. Although the television show doesn’t follow Robert Kirkman’s comics to a T, we quickly knew that, like his comic book counterpart, TV Eugene would claim to have knowledge of a cure in Washington D.C. and Abraham would make it his mission to get him there.
Right now our group is trapped in a Terminus train car, but we’d be surprised if they didn’t hit the road for D.C. in the future. When asked about Season 5 and the possibility of finding a cure during a chat with GoldDerby.com, Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) said, “I don’t know, there’s talk of a cure definitely in our scripts and there’s been episodes aired where they’ve even talked about a cure.”
Norman didn’t elaborate and mention if there was cure talk in Season 5, but that’s probably because the Powers That Be are really keeping plot points on the downlow this year. In fact, the cast is often in the dark until the last possible moment! “We are on Episode 4 right now, and it’s such a tight ship over here,” Norman explains. “They kind of tell us what we’re going to shoot right before we shoot it this year. Everything’s on lockdown and every time we read something we all freak out because it’s kind of mind-blowing.”
Norman went on to explain that some parts of this upcoming season are so “mind-blowing” that he isn’t even sure how they’ll make it to television. Though it should be noted that Norman apparently goes through a similar thought process each year.
“We were doing Episode 1 and Andrew and I were sitting next to each other and I was saying, ‘Man they’re never going to air any of this on television, this is too crazy,’” Norman dished. “And then we were thinking about it and we we’re like, ‘We’ve said that every year and it makes it to television.’ This season is going to be pretty nuts.”
