Vampire Diaries Season 5: Ian Somerhalder on Damon and Elena’s Future

Ian Somerhalder (Damon) and Nina Dobrev (Elena) might have ended their real-life relationship, but their Vampire Diaries characters are still very much on! Ian recently spoke with TV Fanatic about what’s next for Delena on The Vampire Diaries Season 5.

Things are, in fact, going so well for Damon and Elena this season, that she’s moving in with him! Well, sort of. Both Elena and her brother Jeremy will be living Chez Salvatore.

“The Gilberts are camped out at the Salvatore mansion. I guess you take the good with the bad. You get the girl, take the brother. Sort of like a mother-in-law, when the mother-in-law moves in?”

As much as we’re sure Jer probably wouldn’t like the old lady comparison, Ian does have a point. After all, isn’t the stereotypical mother-in-laws nagging, annoying and inherently distrustful of you? Sounds a lot like Jeremy and Damon’s relationship to us.

At the end of the day, though, Damon will always have Jer’s back. The reason is simple. “Damon has to protect Jeremy. It’s his girlfriend’s brother. If something happens to him, he’s not getting laid,” Ian says.

As for what the future holds for Damon and Elena, Ian says that while things are good for now, the couple still won’t have things easy. He blames it on the fact that the two live in Mystic Falls, which Ian says is just a “very toxic environment.”

Ian warns that the town’s “dark underbelly” will soon re-emerge, and he says that none of the characters will be able to “stay that happy that long, otherwise there’d be no drama.” Sorry, guys. It sounds like Damon and Elena aren’t getting their happily ever after just yet.
