The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 17 Spoiler Roundup — “Rescue Me”

Tonight, The Vampire Diaries is all new with Season 5, Episode 17 (“Rescue Me”). The episode promises new doppelgangers, Delena hookups, and Steroline cuddling. What more could you want from an hour of television? Here is a roundup of everything we know about Episode 17.

Road trip for Stefan’s doppelganger

As was hinted at in the last episode, Caroline and Enzo are heading to Atlanta to find Stefan’s doppelganger. Caroline plans on bringing the doppelganger back so that the Travelers will let Stefan go. What will Stefan’s doppelganger be like? We see some glimpses of him in this promo. He looks adorable and scruffy-haired — and is possibly an EMT?

Enzo opens up to Caroline

According to the synopsis, “Caroline is surprised when Enzo opens up to her about his past," so this episode will include some road trip confessions. We’re guessing Enzo is chatting about Maggie, the lab assistant he fell in love with while he was an Augustine vampire in the 1950s. Heather Hemmens has been cast to play the part, so fingers crossed for some flashbacks!

Caroline and Enzo will not be hooking up

Though it sounds like Caroline and Enzo will be getting closer on their road trip, Julie Plec says they won’t be hooking up — Caroline just has chemistry with everyone!: "I think it's fairly safe to say now after five years that Caroline has chemistry with everybody,” Julie told E! Online, “and so there's definitely some fun banter and some flirtation that she indulges on a small level because Enzo is a highly mischievous flirt, but I think it's really more just he gets a kick out of digging at her and poking at her.”

Things are going to get worse for Stefan

From the sounds of this Season 5 promo, the Travelers won’t be letting Stefan go anytime soon. We hear Caroline angrily tell Sloan: “We had a deal: I find Stefan’s last living doppelganger and, in return, you stop using Stefan to psychically doppel-bomb him.” But doppel-bombing is exactly what Sloan is doing to him in another shot. And executive producer Caroline Dries told those gathered for the PaleyFest panel that things are only going to get worse for Stefan in Season 5 from here on out. Poor, Stef.

Steroline cuddling

At least Stefan will have some comfort in the form of snuggle time with bestie Caroline. As you can see in this promo, the two are lying down together and gazing into one another’s eyes. Julie told TVLine: “They go on an adventure, there’s a train car and it’s cold outside. So what are a girl and a boy to do, but cuddle up for warmth?”

Parent-teacher awkwardness

According to the synopsis, “Damon and Elena spend an awkward afternoon at Jeremy’s parent-teacher conference, where they hear bad news about his behavior at school.” Wait, Jeremy still goes to school? Maybe not, from the sounds of that meeting.

Delena can’t keep their hands off one another

Elena might be a little distracted from the parent-teacher conference given that, though she and Damon have technically broken up, they can’t keep their hands off one another. In this sneak peek, we see the two sitting in a Rosewood High classroom discussing their “problem” and, in this promo, Damon shoves Elena up against a locker and tells her: “All I know, I want to rip your clothes off right here in the middle of this hall, throw you in one of these rooms, and kiss every square inch of your body.” Oh, boy.

Bonnie has a run in with Luke

According to the synopsis, “Bonnie has an unsettling encounter with Luke, and learns more about his family history.” Yes! We may know that Luke is siblings with fake-newbie witch Liv, but we’re not sure how they fit into the larger storyline at work. They seem to be at odds with the Travelers. Was their family killed by the Travelers? Or are they Travelers themselves?

Liv talks Travelers with Jeremy

Meanwhile, “Liv fills Jeremy in on the rumors about the Travelers’ next move and demonstrates her considerable power. Jeremy makes an unexpected deal with Liv, then makes a decision that is devastating to Elena.” What is Jer doing spending so much time with Liv, and is it more than just business as Damon implies in this sneak peek? And what deal does he make with her? Does this have anything to do with the promo shot we see of Liv throwing Elena across an empty warehouse with only her magic?

Markos is here

In tonight’s episode, we will finally meet the Travelers’ leader: Markos. According to the synopsis, “A terrifying turn of events at the Travelers’ camp leads to the appearance of their mysterious leader, Markos.” What goes down to bring Markos to town? And what does the big bad want? In this promo, we hear him say, “I’m the reason Stefan and Elena are being drawn together.” The plot thickens!
