The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 3 Promo: 5 Things We Learn About “Original Sin”

The promo for The Vampire DiariesSeason 5, Episode 3 (“Original Sin”) shows just one scene of a very thirsty Stefan stumbling into a bar and draining an unsuspecting barkeep and therefore, doesn’t give us much insight into the upcoming episode. But the tone-heavy promo isn’t without its merit! Here are five things we learned from the Episode 3 promo.

Delena still haven’t found Stefan. At the end of Season 5, Episode 2 (“True Lies”), Elena packs up her college bags to help Damon find Stefan. Though they manage to find the safe Stefan spent his summer in, there is only a drained corpse waiting for them. Going into Episode 3, it seems the search is still on for the younger Salvatore. And, judging from the promo, it takes longer to find a stumbling, starving vampire than one would have thought because Stefan is still on the loose. Get your act together, Delena! This isn’t Waldo.

That corpse in the safe was not Stefan’s last victim. If you thought the poor bloke Damon, Elena, and Sheriff Forbes found drained in Stefan’s safe was the starving vamp’s last victim, then you would be sorely mistaken. Meet Jo, a hip-looking young bartender who happens to be wiping down the bar at the establishment Stefan stumbles into. Now, say goodbye to Jo the Bartender. Given the way Stefan was going at her neck, it doesn’t seem like Jo will be around for long. Too bad. She looked cool.

Stefan is too hungry or Ripper to care. The title cards on the promo read: “For three months, he starved. Now, The Ripper is back.” We admit that Stefan doesn’t seem to hesitate before going for Jo’s jugular, but we’re not sure it’s because he has turned off his humanity and gone full-on Ripper on us. In fact, we call shenanigans on The CW’s marketing department. We think Stefan is just really, really hungry. But we’ll have to wait for the ep to find out!

Stefan has lost none of his style. You’d think spending three months stuck perpetually drowning in a quarry would muss up one’s hair a bit, but Stefan is showing no signs of wear or tear (aside from the aforementioned stumbling and bloodlust). In fact, he’s looking more fashionable than ever in his badass boots and leather jacket. Quarry looks good on him.

This picture is of Stefan, not Silas. Whatever Silas is up to in Episode 3, it doesn’t seem to be sucking people dry (probably). Pre-premiere, we got this promo pic of Paul Wesley as either Silas or Stefan with blood dripping from his mouth. At the time, we were unsure of the subject’s identity, but now we think it’s Stefan (especially given Silas’ opinion on drinking directly from his dinner). New question: Does this pic come post-Jo., or does Stefan have even more victims in the episode?

What other insights does the promo give us into the upcoming episode? Sound off in the comments below!
