The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 7 Spoiler Roundup — Amara Is Alive and Crazy

There’s plenty to look forward to in tonight’s all-new episode of The Vampire Diaries Season 5, Episode 7 (“Death and the Maiden”). Silas is alive, Amara is crazy, and Damon has “doppelgangers coming out of [his] ears”! Here’s a spoiler roundup of everything we know about tonight’s episode.

Amara is alive and crazy

Turns out 2,000 years desiccating in a box seriously deteriorates one’s mental health. In this sneak peek, we watch Damon and Stefan watching Amara, who is mumbling and screaming at an invisible friend. Damon fills Stefan in on the deal: Amara is the anchor for the Other Side, aka the supernatural purgatory where Bonnie is currently stuck. If she dies, every supernatural being stuck there will pass on for good, and the gang will never be able to resurrect Bonnie. Given that Amara drank The Cure from Silas’ blood, she is now mortal and easily killed. Damon and Stefan have to keep her alive until Bonnie can be brought back.

Bonnie and Jeremy are still star-crossed

Meanwhile, in what is currently perhaps the most depressing TVD ship, Jeremy tries to tell Bonnie exactly how he feels about her before the Other Side is potentially destroyed in this sneak peek. He only gets through “This is not a goodbye” and “Thank you for giving your life up for me” before Bonnie cuts him off. She wants Jeremy to wait to tell her how he feels so that there will be another time. Wise-beyond-his-years Jeremy is pretty sure it doesn’t work like that. According to the official synopsis for the episode, “After a surprising conversation with Amara, Jeremy and Bonnie share a glimmer of hope.” Is this the glimmer of hope? Or, does Jer talk to Amara later and learn something promising from the 2,000-year-old anchor?

Three Petrova doppelgangers, one scene

TVD is pulling an Orphan Black this episode and featuring not one, not two, but three doppelgangers together in one scene! Katherine, Elena, and Amara all played by the fantastic Nina Dobrev will be chatting it up and we cannot wait. Will Katherine and Elena be visiting Amara in the Salvatore Mansion basement, or will Amara be breaking out and holding a Petrova doppelganger powwow somewhere else?

Bad news bears for Katherine

Speaking of doppelgangers, it sounds like Katherine’s troubles are only worsening in this episode. According to the synopsis, “Dr. Wes gives Katherine some deeply disturbing news.” Does he tell her that he cannot solve the aggressive aging that seems to be a side effect of having taken and then lost The Cure? Or does she have a different problem to deal with?

Nadia is back!

After missing Nadia for a week, Katherine’s long-lost vamp daughter will be back in tonight’s episode and on the look out for her mother. According to the synopsis, “Nadia shows up at Caroline’s dorm room, searching for Katherine.” Will Nadia explain to Caroline the nature of the relationship between her and Katherine? And, does this mean Katherine will be rooming with Caroline for a bit longer? Because, yes please.

The aftermath of Stefan’s reboot

At the end of last week’s episode, Tessa gave Stefan his memories back as punishment for betraying her to save Elena. This week, we deal with the aftermath of the Stefan reboot. In the promo, we see him saying, “My memories are back.” And the synopsis tells us that “Stefan makes a heartbreaking confession to Damon and Elena.” Is he cluing them into his perpetual drownings and the painful hallucinations he had of them while stuck in that lockbox? Whatever it is he is chatting about, it’s stressful. In the promo, we see him accidentally shatter the glass he is holding in his hand during story time with Damon and Elena.

Stefan wants to kill Silas

So, it turns out Silas is still alive after his girlfriend, Amara, stabbed him in the neck and drank his mortal blood in last week’s episode. But how long will he stay that way? Well, if Stefan has anything to say about it, not very long. “Silas needs to die, and I need to be the one to kill him,” he says in the promo.

Silas is immortal, aging, and not happy about it

Turns out that killing Silas? Easier said than done. According to the TVD Powers That Be, Silas is immortal again now that The Cure is no longer in his system. If it’s any consolation to Stefan, he is going to start exhibiting the same aggressive aging as Katherine. So, that sucks. For him. He thinks so, too. According to Paul, "All [Silas] wants to do is die, so he's pissed off and he's going to wreak some havoc. In fact, there's a scene in the next episode which is my favorite scene that I've shot as Silas. It's just really funny, fun, diabolical, and really just well-shot and well-written."

Damon turns to Tessa

It seems that one of the side effects of Silas’ plan to die not working quite as he expected is his failure to keep his promise to Damon to bring Bonnie back from the dead. According to the synopsis, this causes Damon to “turn to Tessa for help with his new plan.” Is Damon going to form alliances with every Big Bad this season? And, is he speaking to Tessa when he delivers this line in the promo: “You want doppelganger blood? I got doppelgangers coming out of my ears.”
