Game of Thrones Season 5: 3 Reasons We’re Excited for Dorne

Most of the news and rumors we’ve heard so far about Game of Thrones Season 5 have to do with Dorne, the most mysterious of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Since it sounds like we’re finally going to be introduced to Dorne next season, here are the top three reasons we’re excited for it.

1. It’s different. Much of Westeros feels the same, with their knights and greenery and white people with British accents. But Dorne is different. It’s located on the southern tip of Westeros, separated by a mountain range, and has an arid, desert climate. The people look different, dress differently, and speak in exotic accents. Their attitudes about sexuality and things like bastards are much more progressive than their northern counterparts, and it should be an interesting change of pace for the show, especially if some northern Westerosi are dropped off in Dorne.

2. The Sand Snakes. Oberyn’s bastard daughters are a fiery bunch, and odds are they’re going to be aching for revenge after the death of their father. The show, which is sometimes accused of being misogynist, could use a few more strong female characters, which is exactly what the Sand Snakes are.

3. More Lannister haters. The Martell family hates the Lannisters, and with the Starks in no position to threaten the crown, we could use a new family to root for. Doran Martell, the Prince of Dorne, is a schemer on par with the likes of Tywin and Littlefinger, so it will be nice to have a guy like that whom we can finally root for.
