Vampire Diaries Season 5 Finale: Michael Malarkey Teases Major Cliffhanger

With only a few episode remaining before the Season 5 finale of Vampire Diaries, we’re gathering up as much information as we can about what’s sure to be a killer season-ender. Luckily, Michael Malarkey (Enzo) is right there with us. He talked to The Hollywood Reporter about the episode — and how it will have us “squealing.”

“When I read that final episode, my jaw hit the floor by the end of it,” Michael teased. “It was that good. It has such a good cliffhanger that's going to have everybody squealing. You guys gotta tune in. Everyone's going to be speechless at the end of it.” OK, fiiine. We’ll watch it, but we’re seriously worried it’s going to have us bursting with angst and questions during the summer hiatus.

Luckily, we have a few more episodes to distract us from the impending insufferable hiatus the season finale’s end will begin and, according to Michael, they’re just as entertaining: “I'd say it's freaky, a word that's not normally in my vocabulary,” Michael said when asked to describe the episodes leading up to the finale. "Freaky man! Totally freaky! It's a steamroller of a lead-up into the finale. There are so many things going on with the Travelers and the Other Side collapsing that there are a lot of threats. You're going to see some death, you're going to see some bad death.”

There was reference to the “three permanent deaths” we’ve heard will go down before the season’s end. Given that Enzo is technically already dead but now operating as a “ghost villain” intent on exacting revenge against the Salvatore brothers, he is still at risk of getting gone permanently. Conversely, Michael also admitted there’s a chance Enzo could return to the land of the living (yes, please!). What would he say to an extension of his contract into Season 6?

“Well, if they were to want me to do that, I'd be more than happy to because I really love this team and I've come to enjoy working with these people,” Michael sweetly said. “They're genuinely caring, accommodating and gorgeous souls. It makes you feel comfortable and confident to do your best work when people are like that.” Aww.

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
