The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Finale Synopsis — What Happens in “Home”?
When it comes to a Vampire Diaries finale, it’s usually better to ask what doesn’t happen — and the Season 5 finale — Season 5, Episode 22 (“Home”) — slated for May 15 is no different. With the Travelers ready to do whatever it takes to destroy magic and the Other Side ready to collapse, the stakes are higher than ever in Mystic Falls.
Perhaps the biggest news out of the episode description is that a heartbroken Damon (Ian Somerhalder) is going to come up with a plan that will cause a “massive explosion” in the town. It looks like he’ll be leaning on Matt (Zach Roerig) and Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) for assistance. Was the explosion the plan all along or did something go awry?
Elena (Nina Dobrev) is going to enlist the help of Liv (Penelope Mitchell) and Luke (Chris Brochu) to take down the Travelers, but it seems that something Liv says about Stefan (Paul Wesley) offhandedly is going to upset Caroline (Candice Accola). Are those feelings bubbling to the surface?
Other juicy tidbits? Markos (Raffi Barsoumian) is going to use violence against Tyler (Michael Trevino) while Bonnie (Kat Graham) settles an old debt. Very interesting, don’t you think?
Check out the lengthy synopsis for the big finale:
"Heartbroken by an unexpected tragedy, Damon is focused on holding himself together, while pushing Bonnie harder than ever to find a way to stop the disintegration of the Other Side. Elena takes matters into her own hands and demands that Liv and Luke help her, but Liv refuses to cooperate until Caroline provides her with some personal motivation. Sheriff Forbes (Marguerite MacIntyre) is horrified when Markos uses violence against Tyler/Julian to prove that Mystic Falls is now under the control of the Travelers. With new information from Sheriff Forbes, Damon comes up with a dangerous plan that relies on split-second timing from Jeremy and Matt. Liv’s off-hand remark regarding Stefan gets a surprisingly emotional response from Caroline. As conditions on the Other Side worsen, Bonnie takes the opportunity to settle an old score. Finally, Damon’s plan causes a massive explosion in Mystic Falls, and everyone is caught up in the confusion, leaving a trail of heroism, sacrifice, relief and despair."
