Pretty Little Liars Season 5: Five Things We Want For Hanna
Pretty Little LiarsSeason 4 wasn’t a walk in the park for any of the Liars, but it particularly sucked for Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson). Not only was her mother accused of killing Detective Wilden (a charge that, for a long time, seemed like it might be true), but she lost her boyfriend to a town of teen-killing ghosts. With Season 5 on the horizon, we’re taking a chance to reflect on our hopes and dreams for the character over the next batch of episodes. Here are five things we want for Hanna in Season 5.
To reconcile with Caleb — but not too easily. Caleb will be back in Season 5, Episode 5, and the boy’s got some explaining to do. Sure, he told Hanna the dealio when she came to visit in Ravenswood, but there’s still much of the truth she deserves to know. We totally want to see these two reunite, but we want Caleb to understand what his lies did to Hanna. Surely, telling her the truth about why he was staying in Ravenswood and letting her make her own decision would have been a better, more respectful way for Caleb to handle his exodus to the nearby town. (Though, admittedly, less dramatic.) We can’t wait to see these two happily back together, but we might want Caleb to squirm a little first.
To make amends with Mona. Sure, Mona is a bit of a sociopath who tortured Hanna and the other Liars for seasons, but she’s been trying to make it up to Hanna ever since. We’re not saying that Hanna has to trust Mona or even be friends with her again, but we’d like to see these former besties come to some sort of understanding and peace. Though we wouldn’t be opposed to a few scenes of these gals shopping together. Truth: we love their friendship.
To spend some time with Lucas. Guess who else will be moseying his way back to Rosewood High in Season 5? Lucas, Hanna’s former friend and sometimes stalker (under the supposed blackmail of the “A” Team)! We’re not really sure where these two stand after everything that’s gone done over the last few season — partially because Lucas has been M.I.A. for so long — but we’d like to find out. Hopefully, we get more than a few scenes of these former (current?) buddies hanging out.
To continue to embrace her inner detective. Though we were sad to see Hanna in pain following the Haleb breakup, one positive that came out of Hanna’s heartbreak was the way in which she threw herself into the “A” game by embracing her inner detective. One of our favorite storylines of Season 4B was Hanna’s newfound interest in detective novels, her friendship with Officer Holbrook (before she kissed him), and her general awesomeness at beating “A” at her own game. We hope to see much more of this in Season 5.
To figure out what she wants for her future. The Liars have been high school seniors for what seems like forever. Though we understand that this show wants to keep our girls in high school for as long as possible, we’d also like to see Hanna figuring out what she wants from her future. What will her life look like after she graduates from Rosewood High (read: if she graduates from Rosewood High)? Who does she want to be when she is no longer defined by her town, its tragedies, and the terribleness of the “A” game? Who does she want to be now? All questions we’d like to see Hanna asking herself come Season 5.
