Game of Thrones Season 5: Is Myrcella Being Recast?

We haven’t seen Myrcella Baratheon, the only daughter of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), since Game of Thrones Season 2, when Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) sent her away to Dorne. Back then, the role was played by Aimee Richardson, but rumor has it Season 5 could see a new actress playing the part. According to Winter Is Coming's sources, next year Myrcella will be played the awesomely-named actress Nell Tiger Free (from BBC’s Mr. Stink). The character’s role is also expected to be expanded.

The recast follows the recent trend of the show recasting Baratheon children not seen since Season 2. This year, Dean-Charles Chapman took over the role of Tommen from Callum Wharry. Winter Is Coming also reports that the show will invent a romantic storyline not present in the books involving Myrcella and her betrothed, the reportedly aged up nephew of Oberyn Martell, Trystane Martell.

Game of Thrones has not been shy in recasting its characters. In addition to the new Tommen, Season 4 also saw new actors portraying The Mountain and Daario, so it’s possible the Myrcella recast is just the first of several recasts we could see heading into Season 5.

What do you think of the reported new Myrcella? Sound off in the comments!
