It was a pretty shocking state of affairs when her royal highness Katherine (Nina Dobrev) ingested the cure in The Vampire Diaries Season 4 finale. Will the human be looking for a way to get her fangs back right out of the gate, or will she stay mortal for a while? Julie Plec tells TV Guide that Kat isn’t going to be guzzling blood again anytime soon in Season 5.
“[G]iven the rules of how one becomes a vampire on our show — which is if you inject vampire blood and then you die with it in your system —that's a pretty big risk to take,” she points out. “If it doesn't work then she's just dead and I think the one thing she's constantly going to weigh is, ‘How much do I hate being human? Am I willing to risk actually dying forever in order to get my vampirism back?’”
It was Elena (Nina Dobrev) who stripped her doppelganger of her vampirism, but Julie says the two have more in common than just their looks. She says, “You know I actually think that if they ever sat down and had a bottle of wine and a bag of chips they'd probably realize they have a lot more in common than they think. But they have a lot of hate and bitterness and altogether bad blood there so it might take a couple of bags of chips and a case of wine.” Can we just have that be an entire episode?
Of course, Katherine has bigger problems than her lack of a relationship with Elena to think about. She’s more vulnerable than ever. Julie tells TVLine, “Absolutely nothing is going to stop everyone from trying to kill her. That’s what puts her in a pickle that is going to have her seeking out protection from unlikely sources.”
Hm. Who will be Katherine’s knight in shining armor? And does she deserve one?
