Vampire Diaries Season 5: Lots of Blood in 100th Episode? (PHOTO)

We’re super-psyched for the 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries (aka Season 5, Episode 11), and we’re gobbling up any spare piece of spoiler we can. Today, that comes in the form of TVD director Chris Grismer’s Instagram. What’s with all of the blood?

Chris shared a snapshot from set that features what looks like bloody bedsheets. Is someone in the main cast bleeding out? Or, perhaps, this comes in the 19th-century flashback we know goes down in this ep. Those sheets do look old and musliny. Might we be flashing back to a particularly harrowing time in the Salvatore brothers’ pasts? We’ve already seen their own deaths, as well as the death of their father. Perhaps, we’ll learn more about their relationships with their consumption-doomed mother.

Hopefully, the blood doesn’t come in the Damon/Jeremy/Matt scene we’ll also get in the centennial ep. While we’ve seen all three of these characters survive substantial blood loss, we’d rather not take any chances — especially with very human Matt. We can’t lose our last non-supernatural character! Whatever the blood represents, we’re expecting something epic for the 100th episode, a watermark event in any television show’s run. Candice Accola said she assumed “there’s going to be a lot going on in 5x11,” and we know there is an emotionally-traumatizing episode currently in the works. Could this bloody sheet represent the ep in question?

Who do you think the blood belongs to? Share your theories in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
