Pretty Little Liars’ resident nerd Lucas (Brendan Robinson) will be back in Season 5 after a season-long hiatus. And it’s not that we aren’t overjoyed to see Lucas back at Rosewood’s best institute for stalking — er, learning — but we’re kinda, sorta worried the lonesome teen is “A.” Check out the evidence.
He’s dropped off everyone’s radar. Lucas has always flown below the radar. People tend not to notice him. But this became even more apparent when he decided to start homeschooling rather than stay at Rosewood High. Now, the Liars literally never see him, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t see then. By not being enrolled in school or doing any extracurricular activities through Rosewood High, Lucas has a different level of accountability and visibility when it comes to his peers: aka none.
He’s a professional photographer. Lucas is a whiz with a camera. He started out as the photographer for the school newspaper, and was always taking pictures at social events — so much so that no one ever questions it. This continued in a more professional capacity when he began interning for a local photographer. We only bring this up because “A” seems to be an avid photographer, taking photos of the Liars and the other Rosewood residents as a way to track and gather blackmail material.
He’s been associated with the “A” Team before. In Season 3, it became apparent that Lucas was pulling some “A” Team shenanigans. When Hanna called him out on it, he claimed that he was being blackmailed into performing the duties, but we’re not so sure. Lucas’ persona as the weak, lonely target is pretty much the best “A” cover ever. By letting people think of him as pathetic, no one ever suspects him of being Uber “A.”
He’s unaccounted for the night of Ali’s attack. Ali ran into pretty much everyone she’s ever met the night of her attack and near-death, except Lucas. As of now, we have no idea what Lucas was up to that night, and that is mighty suspicious to us. Was he the one who attacked Ali? And, if so, why would Mrs. DiLaurentis protect him? Or, perhaps, he was working with whomever attacked Ali, also out to get revenge against the mean girl?
He was one of Ali’s favorite targets. Because, we totally understand why Lucas would hate Ali. He was one of her favorite targets. Even though Lucas didn’t pose any kind of threat to Ali (that we know of), she continued to victimize her classmate, making his life a living hell. We would so not be surprised if he decided to fight back.
He visited Mona in Radley. Though we may still be looking for Uber “A,” we try not to forget that Mona was once the masked villain before her capture. She was committed to Radley where she was visited by Lucas. Have these two been working together against Ali and the Liars since the beginning?
The timing coincides with Ali’s return. Don’t think we haven’t noticed that Lucas’ return to Rosewood High will coincide with Ali’s return to society after her stint of being fake-dead. As previously mentioned, we’ve always wondered if Lucas’ decision to turn homeschooler wasn’t about finding more time to track Ali and be “A.” Now that Ali is back in town, he can return to school and focus all of his time and energy on the latter.
Do you think Lucas is “A”? What do you think his role in Season 5 will be? Sound off in the comments below!
