If you thought The Vampire Diaries might lose some steam now that Katherine is dead and gone, then you were wrong. This promo of what’s still to come in Season 5 proves that the supernatural romance is picking up speed.
How’s the Delena breakup going? We’ll let Damon’s school hallway seduction of Elena take it from here: “All I know, I want to rip your clothes off right here in the middle of this hall, throw you in one of these rooms, and kiss every square inch of your body.” Yeah, the breakup is either going very well or very poorly, depending on your perspective.
But Elena seems to be laying down the law: “You and I? We’re messy and complicated. That’s why I need you to let me go.”
Meanwhile, on the Traveler front, Caroline is pissed at Sloan for apparently going back on their deal: “We had a deal: I find Stefan’s last living doppelganger and, in return, you stop using Stefan to psychically doppel-bomb him.” In the flash of images that accompanies Caroline’s voice over, we see Care and Enzo on the road together, Caroline putting her hands around Stefan’s Doppelganger’s neck, and Stefan in some serious doppel-bombing pain. Drama!
Though we’re still not sure what the brother-sister witch duo of Luke and Liv is up to, it seems to have something to do with the Other Side (which is presumably why they’re working to get closer to its anchor, Bonnie). Grams pays Bonnie a ghostly visit from the Other Side to warn her granddaughter: “Something’s wrong over here, Bonnie.”
Luke outlines another growing (and probably related) problem: “The Travelers are about to make their move. Their leader, Markos, is here.” We see a shot of Markos looking broad shouldered and backlit. Elena is not impressed.
“Perfect. A dead old guy with a mysterious evil plan,” she says, annoyed more than anything. But, perhaps she should be paying attention given that Markos seems to be a total Stelena shipper — and has the power to do something about it.
“I’m the reason Stefan and Elena are being drawn together,” says the hunky Markos. We see a shot of Stefan and Elena being all Stelena-y.
In another shot, Matt confronts Kol Mikaelson (yep, he’s back!). And, given the washed-out, saturated look of the shots, it seems to be happening on the Other Side. We’re guessing (read: hoping) that this is one of those times Matt is hanging in the supernatural purgatory while he waits for his Gilbert ring to bring him back to life, and he hasn’t made the Other Side a more permanent residence. Next, we see him pulling someone along as they race through the wood of the Other Side. Has he temporarily died so he can retrieve someone from over there? Is that even possible?
