The Walking Dead Season 5: Get Ready For More “Easter Eggs”

Scott Gimple is headed into his second full season as showrunner for The Walking Dead, and one of the things we love about him is that he’s fond of planting “Easter eggs” throughout the season — AKA a small item or plot point that’s a hint at what’s to come later.

There were plenty of Easter eggs in Season 4 — Joe (Jeff Kober) and the rats at the fence to name a few — but they’ve actually been a trademark of the show long before Scott was named showrunner at the start of Season 4. In fact, some eagle-eyed viewers may have noticed that when we saw photos of The Governor’s (David Morrissey) wife in Seasons 3 and 4, the attractive blond was none other than TWD co-executive producer Denise Huth. asked Denise about her “Easter egg”/cameo and this is what she said. “I do meet people who love the show and slide in the fact that I’m the Governor’s dead wife. They always want to go back and watch the episode to see the picture. It’s the best cameo because I didn’t have to do any acting, plus Greg [Nicotero] can’t make me into a zombie because she died a year before the apocalypse happened. David Morrissey (The Governor) used to always tease me because he was this normal, nice guy and then I died and he went crazy. So, apparently it’s my fault that The Governor even existed.”

Ha! We never looked at it that way, but maybe it is The Gov’s wife’s fault. If nothing else, her death was obviously the beginning of the end of “Brian.” We were aware that Denise was The Gov’s wife, but were there any eggs we missed in Season 4? Of course!

“When Daryl was in the country club last season, all those pictures of the club presidents were pictures of our crew,” Denise explained. She also made it clear that there will be other Easter eggs in the future. “A lot of times when we need photos that have to be used, so we use people from the crew. There are always tiny things like that where we won’t highlight it too much — it’s more for the people who work on the show, but there will probably be a few this year,” she concluded.

Have you spotted any TWD Easter eggs over the years? Tell us what you’ve seen in the comments below!
