Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) only crossed paths for a few seconds during the Season 4 finale of The Walking Dead, but Andy says his character is already suspicious of this so-called “doctor” who we know has claimed to know a cure for this whole zombie apocalypse thing.
However, an interviewer from The Hollywood Reporter brought up an interesting point that our survivors may be able to use Eugene’s knowledge to their advantage and use it to leverage their escape from Terminus. In other words, if the Termites hear that one of the people they captured claims to know a cure for this whole thing, would they really kill (and possibly eat) him then? When asked if Team Prison could use Eugene’s expertise to their advantage, Andy acknowledged the possibility, but wasn’t exactly convinced. “Possibly, but I'm seriously distrustful of a scientist with a mullet,” he said with a laugh. “I remember going, ‘What does he know? Is he a scientist? Are we supposed to be following him?’”
If Andy is suspicious of Eugene than perhaps we should be too. We haven’t really seen any red flags yet (aside from that whole terrible aim with a gun thing, which could go either way) but as TWD comic book readers know, the source material’s version of Eugene is totally lying about knowing a cure.
Plus, it sounds like Rick/Andy is suspicious all-around, especially when it comes to the Termites. “Rick is really suspect. I think there is a point — which I don't know because we haven't added it up yet — where there's milk outside the railcar, so they're feeding them formula to fatten them up or something. There's a point at which where if they are going to eat us, they're going to have to transport us, kill us, and there will be time — but this is all speculation.”
Time for what, Andy? An escape? We certainly think it’s a possibility, but we’ll have to wait until October to find out what’s really in store! Do you think Team Prison will make a break for it in Season 5, or is that too risky? Vote below!
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
