The Walking Dead Season 5: Will Rick and Others Be Able to Escape the Train Car? (VIDEO)

The first part of The Walking Dead Season 4 finale was all about Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) channeling his inner fierceness to save his son Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) from rape and death, and part two addressed Rick, Carl, Michonne (Danai Gurira), and Daryl Dixon’s (Norman Reedus) arrival at Terminus.

Rick was right to be suspicious if this new “sanctuary”, and he made sure he was prepared before he entered into this mysterious locale. As comic book writer and executive producer Robert Kirkman explains in the video below, “The fact that he hides guns, the fact that he is very wary of what might be waiting for them on the other side of this just shows how far he’s come. This is a guy who is on top of things and is trying to see all angles of every situation and trying to take those extra steps to keep his people safe.”

Andrew says Rick “smells a rat” right away, but it still wasn’t enough to get them out of there fast enough. “The bad news is, they’re trapped. The good news is they have reunited with so many of the group,” executive producer Gale Anne Hurd says. And she’s right. Rick and co. may be stuck in a small, confined space, but they’re with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), Tara Chambler (Alanna Masterson), Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), Dr. Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt), Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), Bob Stookey (Larry Gilliard Jr.), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan).

As Lauren notes, Rick’s entrance into the dark train car marks a “bittersweet reunion.” Her on-screen love Steven muses, “They’re in a tough bind.”

Many were surprised and even a bit annoyed that the Season 4 finale ended with a cliffhanger like this, but Robert says fans should remain hopeful for Rick and the group going into Season 5 in October. “He knows ‘I’ve got my people back now and these people give me strength.’ And I think that’s what gives him the confidence to know that he is going to be able to handle this situation and he is going to be able to keep his people out. And whether or not he’s right we’ll just have to find out in Season 5.”

Oh Robert, we know Rick and his crew won’t be trapped in that train forever...or will they?! Share your Season 5 theories below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
