Glee Season 5: After the Breakup, Do [Spoiler] and [Spoiler] Date?
We never quite decided if we’d rather see Marley (Melissa Benoist) end up with Jake (Jacob Artist) or Ryder (Blake Jenner) on Glee. Although, she and Ryder always seemed a bit more compatible. Now, it’s looking like we might just get the chance to see Ryder and Marley together. Get excited, Team Ryley!
Marley and Jake have been pretty solid since last season, even though Ryder made his affection for Marley known as soon as he met her. Ryder kissed Marley right before they took the stage for Grease, and then kissed her again at the Sadie Hawkins dance. But despite all that smooching, Marley still never requited Ryder’s interest.
However, the next few Season 5 episodes might prove to be a different story. The upcoming Season 5, Episode 5: “The End of Twerk” might as well be called “The End of Jarley,” since — according to the episode’s synopsis — Marley learns that Jake has a “relationship” with Bree (Erinn Westbrook). Uh-oh.
Also in that episode, Marley will be singing Miley Cyrus’s heartbreaking ballad “Wrecking Ball,” which is about the end of a relationship. And it’s hard to imagine Marley singing that about anything else other than an ex.
Meanwhile, in Season 5, Episode 6: “Movin’ Out,” Ryder will be singing the Billy Joel song “An Innocent Man.” And even the most causal Billy J. fan could tell you that this song is a plea for love, making it likely that Ryder is singing it to the now-available Marley.
Okay, so we haven’t yet gotten official confirmation about Ryder and Marley getting together from the show. But how would you feel about it? We’d be onboard, since we’ve been pulling for them ever since Ryder give her a pep talk about her eating disorder, and then he had Jake give Marley her favorite flowers and that pendant for Valentine’s Day. Swoon.
Plus, we have to say that a part of us wants to see Marley and Ryder together because of the actors’ real-life romance, as Melissa and Blake are rumored to be engaged. And who wouldn’t want to see some of this chemistry on the screen? C’mon, Marley — give the guy a chance already!
