Glee Season 5: Shirley MacLaine Cast as Blaine’s [SPOILER]!

Glee Season 5 may have a shorter run than usual because of the extended hiatus the cast and crew took after Cory Monteith's (Finn) sudden death last summer, but the Fox dramedy is still soldiering on and filming an impressive 20 episodes (reduced from the standard 22), even adding some Oscar-winning guest-stars along the way!

Per TVLine, Ryan Murphy’s musical baby has enlisted legendary actress Shirley MacLaine to play a New York socialite “intent on turning recent Big Apple transplant Blaine into a superstar.” Um, yes please! Rachel (Lea Michele) is already on her way to superstardom thanks to her role as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, and we’re elated to hear that some wealthy old broad will be singling out Blaine (Darren Criss) as well. There’s no word yet on how Blaine’s fiancé Kurt (Chris Colfer) will react to this sugar mama, but if we had to take a guess we’d say that it won’t be all smooth sailing for the fan-favorite couple.

TVLine also notes that Shirley has signed on for a multi-episode arc, with the first of her installments scheduled to air later this month. Shirley may be unknown to many of you gleeks, but trust us when we tell you that this gal is the real deal. Die-hard TV fans may even recognize her as Lady Grantham’s mother, Martha, on Downton Abbey.

Seeing as how Shirley’s first Glee ep is set to air in a matter of weeks, the 79-year-old actress is already hard at work in rehearsals with Darren, practicing what looks like a cute dance number. Click here to see them rehearsing!
