When Tessa/Qetsiyah (Janina Gavankar) revealed that her former handmaiden, Amara, was the originals Petrova doppelganger and basically stole her husband-to-be Silas, our heads were spinning with Vampire Diaries mythology overload. Episode 3 (“Original Sin”) was an overwhelming episode, but it looks like Episode 7 (“Death and the Maiden”) is going to be one for the record books.
Nina Dobrev has already proven to be a beast of an actress, playing both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce, but from the sound of things, she could be adding a third doppelganger to her list.
According to the Episode 7 synopsis, “After a surprising conversation with Amara, Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) and Bonnie Bennett (Kat Graham) share a glimmer of hope.” Hmm, it sounds like Amara will be alive, which means that Nina could be having to pull triple duty during that episode.
We expect this to be the first time we get to see Amara, besides the very short scenes in Episode 3. While we don’t know how long she’ll be around in the episode — or if she’ll just be on the Other Side with Bonnie — we’re excited to see Nina continuing to challenge herself as an actress.
Perhaps the best news, though, is that Amara seems to be bringing tidings of great joy for Jeremy and Bonnie, and we hope that this will lead to Ghost Bonnie coming back to life and being able to cuddle up to Jeremy sometime soon. If Amara can make that happen, it won’t be any surprise that she’s the OG Petrova doppelganger.
