Glee Season 5 Spoiler: Is This Evidence of a Breakup in Episode 5?
Around this time last year on Glee, all of our favorite couples were breaking up. Finchel, Brittana, and Klaine all ended their relationships — many of them for good — and even Wemma looked to be headed for Splitsville. Luckily, Season 5 hasn’t seen any big breakups so far.
But before you run at us with pitchforks and other uncomfortably pointy objects, we’d like to take this moment to assure you that fiances Kurt and Blaine are not the ones headed for a split. Instead, it seems that McKinley sweethearts Jake (Jacob Artist) and Marley (Melissa Benoist) might not be together much longer.
Then, we realized that “Wrecking Ball” is, without a doubt, a song about the end of a relationship. The couple is through, and the singer is left to slowly pick up the pieces.
Now, Marley could be singing this about a bully at school. Or some new big challenge in her life. But chances are, she’s singing it about her boyfriend, Jake. That certainly seems to be the most probable explanation. Jake and Marley have been happily together all season. (We think? We honestly haven’t seen much of either of them so far... but we’re pretty sure they were holding hands in one of the recent songs.)
Of course, it’s no secret that Ryder (Blake Jenner) still has feelings for Marley. No idea if a Jarley split might mean that Ryder and Marley are on, but if it does, then Glee would once again be mirroring real life. Actors Blake Jenner and Melissa Benoist are dating, and they’re even rumored to be engaged.
What do you think: Are Jake and Marley headed for a breakup, or is Marley singing “Wrecking Ball” about someone else?
