The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: Damon Is Bad Again (VIDEO)

For those looking for a quick reconciliation for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) on The Vampire Diaries, think again. It sounds like things are going to get worse for our star-crossed couple before they get better — and it’s going to send Damon into a serious morality tailspin.

“Damon is bad again,” Ian spilled in a video interview with China Joy during a recent trip to China. “He’s sort of the bad Damon, which is always a lot of fun. Because he’s heartbroken from Elena. He wants to just eat people and drink booze.”

Aww. Poor Damon. We hope he doesn’t eat too many people — he’s made such promise since Season 1. (Sans his Whitmore family killing spree, obvi.) We hope this latest plot twist doesn’t feel like a regression in his character development. Even with the Delena breakup that went down in the midseason finale, we like to think Damon has moved past some of his most immoral behavior. Though, we have to admit it: Bad Damon is a heck of a lot of fun.

Might Damon’s former prison bestie and current frenemy, Enzo (Michael Malarkey), have a part to play in Damon’s return to darkness? We’ve already heard Enzo described as the “the devil on Damon’s shoulder,” and Ian confirmed that they will be spending a lot of time together: “Enzo is the man,” he said. “There’s a lot of Enzo and Damon. I think it’s called Denzo.” Yep, it’s called Denzo — and we’re totally on board!

If we can’t have Delena, then Denzo is probably the next best thing. Let’s just hope no one we like stumbles into the path of this potentially destructive duo. And that we get that shirtless fight scene Julie Plec was talking about.

Are you excited to see Bad Damon again, or does it feel like a regression of his character? And what do you think of the Denzo dynamic? Do you think Enzo will only be a bad influence on Damon? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries returns Thursday, January 23 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
