We were introduced to Enzo, Damon’s former Augustine buddy, in The Vampire Diaries Season 1, Episode 9 (“The Cell”). Before Damon left him to burn in 1958, Enzo was a cheeky vamp who wanted nothing more than to escape the confines of his cell. However, the Enzo we saw strapped to a table next to Elena was a changed man — he seemed more aloof, which is perhaps a side effect of being in captivity for over 70 years.
But how will Damon react to seeing his old buddy? More importantly, what will become of their former friendship?
“When Damon and Enzo meet face to face, which is something we're teeing up as a big moment in the episode, Enzo has a clear agenda with what he has to do but there are layers in their relationship,” Vampire Diaries writer Caroline Dries told The Hollywood Reporter. “It's a complicated relationship. It will pull out interesting shades for Damon too. They're both very good together.”
The last time these two were face-to-face, Damon betrayed Enzo, so we wouldn’t be surprised if Enzo’s “clear agenda” has something to betraying Damon right back. However, we like the idea of Damon having a male confidante. Let’s face it: he can’t really go to Stefan with his problems, his former best friend is dead (RIP Alaric), and while he shared a few bro moments with Jeremy, being best friends with your girl’s younger brother is complicated.
So despite the obvious tension between Enzo and Damon, we wouldn’t mind seeing these two become friends again.
What do you think, TVD fans? Is Enzo going to try to betray Damon? Will he use Elena to do so? Sound off in the comments!
