The Vampire Diaries Season 5 Spoilers: “Intense” Scene For Tyler in Episode 20

We’re glad to have Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) back in our Vampire Diaries lives after his subsequent stints in the Appalachian mountains and New Orleans on The Originals. And it sounds like TVD may soon be throwing some pretty heavy stuff at Mystic Falls hybrid. What is this we hear about an “intense” scene for Tyler?

“Intense, fearless performance by @Michael_Trevino on Day 2 of filming #TVD 5x20. #DirectorPride,” director Joshua Butler tweeted yesterday, along with a hazy shot of Michael emoting. What exactly goes down in Season 5, Episode 20?

We’re actually pleasantly surprised by this spoiler and by Tyler’s recent stuff. We have to admit: when the character first returned to TVD in the 100th episode, we weren’t really sure where his storyline could go. He had broken up with Caroline (Candice Accola), failed in his revenge on Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and had no plans to go to college. Then TVD acknowledged all of this when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) laid it out for Tyler in the last episode, and we remembered one of the chief reasons we love this show: it doesn’t abandon its characters. It follows them wherever they go, and tells the stories of the ways they stumble and fall, as well as the ways they overcome and succeed.

Tyler’s character path makes total sense given what he’s been through: losing both his father and mother to supernatural events, and being repeatedly used as a pawn in the supernatural battles of the Mikaelsons. We probably wouldn’t be up for going to freshman mixers, either. We’re excited to see where the show takes Tyler’s storyline from here — and it sounds like Episode 20 might be an important one in that journey. We are so there.

Are you as curious about Tyler’s storyline as we are? What do you think is going down in Episode 20? Sound off in the comments below!
