Game of Thrones Season 5: The Storyline We Hope to See Cut

Game of Thrones Season 5 is coming. The next season of the hit HBO fantasy is said to be based on Books 4 and 5 in A Song of Ice and Fire: A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons, respectively, and those books feature a lot of new characters and plotlines.

There’s just no way the show will be able to fit in everything, so here’s the storyline we’d most like to see cut.

One thing we know for certain is that Season 5 will feature a lot more of Dorne. The Martell family features prominently in the series going forward, but there’s one Martell whose storyline doesn’t add much to the story, if you ask us.

Quentyn Martell is the oldest son of Doran Martell, Lord of Sunspear and brother to Oberyn. In the books, Doran reveals that the Martells had a deal with the Targaryens to wed Doran’s daughter, Arianne, to Dany’s brother Viserys when they both came of age. Now that Viserys is dead, Doran sends Quentyn to Dany with a copy of the agreement in the hopes that she’ll marry him instead to honor the deal between their families.

We spend a lot of time seeing Quentyn get to Meereen, only to see him finally get there and be rejected by Dany. Quentyn then decides it would be a good idea to train one of the dragons to show Dany that he’s worthy, and the dragon kills him. That’s it. A ton of pages are wasted on Quentyn and the reader feels pretty ripped off at the end of it, and we just feel like show watchers will have the same sentiment.
